A Fine Time for Murder

Patch Notes

Week Three

A Fine Time for Murder week three update fixes a number of issues across the game including your character getting stuck becoming unable to progress past a conversation with Carmen after Marconi's murder (depending on previous choices with Drake), broken if statements in the final scene of the game, most passages in the opening scene of the game on the platform, and more. The patch ultimately cut off somewhat of 2,000 words from the Story Statistics.

Tuesday, December 7th

  • Replaced commas with 'ands' and added hooks to ending 'if' statements
  • Capitalized 'Southern' when describing Dixon's accent
  • Added 'you type out a message' to make it clear that the player is choosing what Audrey says to Marconi in the message, not the other way around
  • Fixed an error where if certain instances weren't true/false then the game ended during a conversation with Carmen after the murder
  • Removed multiple ways that Frank or Frank and Margo could be guilty to reduce errors in the end of the story

Friday, December 10th

  • Shifted passages around again to better locate cells
  • Consolidated 'talk to Dixon' and 'Speak to Dixon' since neither had any impact on the story and were originally place separate to enable differentiation between if player received help or not
  • Added an if: false statement to include if the player did not include to look at the picture under Marconi's pillow, then when Marconi is found dead, the picture is in his hand
  • Added minor foreshadowing in "Look, I appreciate it, but..." and "Don't do something like that again..."
  • Go see what Dixon is doing: fixed the dead end Shortened the amount of people the player can sit with to three: Dixon, Dawn, and Drake

A Fine Time for Murder

Patch Notes

Week Four

A Fine Time for Murder week three update fixes a number of issues across the game including a dead end if Audrey was found guilty, clarified motivations for why she would dose Marconi, made the end of the story loop back to the beginning of act one to allow the player to immediately replay, changed details of the picture variable, corrected spelling, cleaned up redundant passages, and more, including various cosmetic changes.

Wednesday, December 15th

  • Fixed dead end if Audrey was guilty
  • Added 'to remain silent' to Miranda Rights in each character's ending passage
  • Removed $picture variable for officer conversation
  • Corrected nervousness spelling in 'Go First.'
  • Add condition that if $picture is false when you 'head to Marconi's room' and find his body, then you take the picture at that moment so you can show the officers in the end
  • Fixed the picture in Marconi's room (whether found while searching his room or later when you find his body) to be a picture of Audrey's mother rather than of her and Marconi when she was a child; this is also the picture you give to the cops during your interrogation
  • Add condition that if $picture is false when you 'head to Marconi's room' and find his body, then you take the picture at that moment so you can show the officers in the end

Story/Motivations

  • Clarified Audrey's motivations for dosing Marconi when checking his room
  • Tell the truth: edited passage to reflect changes in story to clarify main character's motivations

Passages

  • Made "The End" a clickable link that led to the final passage which asks the player if they are satisfied with their choices, and allows them to 'play again' restarting at act one
  • Removed redundant 'go back' passage under character select if player chooses Audrey; it now displays 'go back' and links back to 'choose your character' like the others
  • Changed 'I just wish I had gotten to know my real father' to 'I just wish I had gotten a chance to talk to him'

Thursday, December 16th

  • Changed Title card text alignment and added a border
  • Removed back button throughout game story
  • Fixed a dead end with variables
  • Removed $drakeinterest and $marconi variables
  • Removed unnecessary information in 'You sigh'
  • Changed interaction between Audrey and Drake slightly in 'Meet me in my room in an hour'
  • Removed convoluted twist of Dawn not being her real name without any foreshadowing
  • Reworked variables to hopefully eliminate the potential to choose the ending in 'hear the verdict'
  • Added $blackmail variable if player chooses to threaten Marconi in the text message; also added that to the final verdict formulas
  • Reworked final formulas (again) for guilty verdict to conclude only one guilty party in the end each time; only one way for Marconi's death to be ruled a suicide, which is basically a perfect playthrough
  • Changed the layout of 'the letter'
  • Changed 'I'd coming in' to 'I'm coming in' - corrected the spelling of the word positive - edited a few instances of grammar and punctuation issues throughout Fixed a broken link that didn't allow player to let Carmen leave without telling her information on the Walkers
